Thanks to the generosity of our contributors...

In 2007, the American Kidney Fund provided over $100 million in treatment-related financial assistance to more than 68,000 kidney patients nationwide.

  • 34,600 dialysis patients maintained their health insurance coverage (Medicare Part B, Medigap, Commercial and COBRA policies) with assistance from our Health Insurance Premium Program (HIPP);
  • 30,300 patients received help with treatment necessities such as transportation to dialysis, medication co-pays, prescription drugs, nutritional products and emergency assistance  through our Safety Net Programs;
  • 2,800 patients received medications through our Renagel and Hectorol Patient Assistance Programs;
  • Many more kidney patients benefited from our Disaster Relief Program, our Travel-Related Dialysis Program and our Patient Scholarships. Some of the youngest patients were able to attend camp thanks to our Summer Enrichment Program for children with kidney disease.

AKF also provided kidney disease education and prevention in 2007:

  • More than 5,800 individuals were screened for kidney disease in Atlanta, Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C., and more than 1.4 million people heard our public awareness radio campaign in those cities.
  • Over 240,000 people received a health information wallet card, providing important information about key health measures.
  • Thousands of people e-mailed or called our HelpLine (866-300-2900) to get information about kidney health.
